THE PRISONER

OVERVIEW
OF THE BOOK
An outline of the contents and the approaches the book takes.
THE
PRISONER - A TV CLASSIC
An article which takes up and expands on some of the themes
of the book, examining notions of 'TV aesthetics' in particular.
If you've ever watched a single episode of The Prisoner
you should read this!
THE
PRISONER AND NEW BRITAIN
Much of the 'fan worship' The Prisoner inspires seems
to emanate from people who reside in Anorakland. To such
people any politicisation of the debate over the series
is anathema. Dressing up in cute costumes and re-enacting
scenes from the series may be great fun, but such activities
only obscure what the series was really about...
Those of us with eyes and ears can see that 'The
Prisoner' is a prophecy of the kind of society we live in
today, with its ever more subtle forms of social
control.
This
article is meant to be deliberately provocative, and is
hopefully addressed not only to the 'inner circle' of Prisoner
fans who seem content to see the series as merely nostalgic
fun but to those of us who recognise it as a political/moral/spiritual
satire which surpasses even Orwell's 1984 or Huxley's
Brave New World as a warning to us all!
